FRAUNHOFER GESELLSCHAFT:
HIGH TECH MEETS TRADITION
In the multidisciplinary project "High Tech meets Tradition" of the Fraunhofer network "Science, Art and Design", I worked in a team with Fraunhofer researchers, designers and architects at the Picard sandstone quarry in Kaiserslautern, Germany. We wanted to find new sustainable uses for the remains of the sandstone quarry. We designed a minimally invasive water storage system from sandstone remnants that could be used under sealed surfaces in the city during prolonged droughts caused by climate change. Our team won first prize for this idea. Here are some impressions of our working environment: the sandstone quarry.
